Here are the highlights of my past few weeks.
1. Spring Awakening: I saw the show at Birmingham Southern University and it was amazing. They did a great job.
2. S’mores: Who knew you could make s’mores in the oven?

3. Sam’s Toe Socks (That’s Helen.)

4. The Midnight Premier of Breaking Dawn: Kristin Stewart’s acting is terrible and I kind of want to be a vampire so I don’t have to sleep.
5. Watching Fired Up with Lauren
6. A Little Night Music Casting
7. Working on “Sure Thing” for the Ten Minute Play Festival
8. Bart and Euripides

9. My Big (She’s the blonde one.)

10. Girls’ Night with Christy, Rachel, and Shelbi: I actually wore makeup.

11. My Roommate writes nice things (I know it’s backwards. Calm down.)

These photos are long overdue.

Lions are my favorite animals. I secretly want to raise a baby lion in my dorm room.

Giraffes are my roommate’s favorite animal. She’s six feet tall.

The Birmingham Zoo is great. That is all.
I’m sitting alone in the third floor lobby of Vail, and the ice machine is rumbling nearby. Those soft sounds of the nighttime are present in the empty hallways extending to my left and right as I’m leaning over my Macbook, making revisions to my Cultural Perspectives term paper.
My alarm blared at five this morning. Registration began at six, although I didn’t complete my registration until three this afternoon. Not only did the portal overload, but music theory lab conflicts with ballet.
I still need to run downtown to the Greek Orthodox Church tomorrow afternoon to flip through their hymnal for my term paper. My presentation for the Red Mountain Theatre Company is on Thursday.
Thanksgiving break is next week. Hallelujah.
Here’s the cold-read we were given in an audition the other night. I was cast as Betty in Sure Thing by David Ives. Betty is reading in a cafe when Bill approaches. Each time their conversation goes awry, the section starts over.
Bill: You weren’t waiting for somebody when I came in, were you?
Betty: Actually, I was.
Bill: Boyfriend?
Betty: Sort of.
Bill: What’s a “sort of boyfriend”?
Betty: My husband.
Bill: Ah.

Bill: You weren’t waiting for somebody when I came in, were you?
Betty: Actually, I was.
Bill: Boyfriend?
Betty: Sort of.
Bill: What’s a “sort of boyfriend”?
Betty: We were meeting here to break up.
Bill: Mhm.
(Bell)
Bill: What’s a “sort of boyfriend”?
Betty: My lover. Here she comes right now!
(Bell)
Bill: You weren’t waiting for somebody when I came in, were you?
Betty: No, just reading.
Bill: Sort of a sad occupation for a Friday night, isn’t it? Reading here all by yourself?
Betty: Do you think so?
Bill: Well sure. I mean, what’s a good-looking woman like you doing alone on a Friday night?
Betty: Trying to stay away from lines like that.
Bill: No, listen -

Start by cutting up eight cups of apples into small 1/2in bits.
![]()
12 tablespoons of flour
1 1/2c of sugar
4 heaping teaspoons of cinnamon
1/4-1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg (depending on how much you like nutmeg…you could also leave it out)
You will also need:
4 tablespoons of chilled butter cut into 24 equal portions.
two boxes of pilsbury pie crusts (four chilled NOT frozen crusts)

I found that pinching the edge of the dough around the top edge of the tin and making a hammock of sorts worked really well. You can then gently fill the crusts with your apple mixture and push the crusts down the rest of the way.
